The Club at Viniterra holds a unique place in golfing history, proudly marking the very first course ever played in a GolfGiving event. While the course is known for its beauty and challenging layout, our inaugural visit was made even more memorable by some particularly demanding conditions.

The day began with an unexpected challenge: leaves. Piles of them, in fact, creating a colorful but often frustrating obstacle on the fairways and around the greens. Adding to the complexity, a strong, biting wind swept across the course, making club selection a constant guessing game. The cold further intensified the difficulty, demanding extra layers and a steely resolve to maintain focus.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the day was how much longer the course played than anticipated. The wind certainly contributed, but even without it, the rolling hills and strategically placed hazards seemed to stretch every hole beyond its listed yardage. What looked like a mid-iron approach often required a long iron or even a hybrid, testing the limits of our endurance and precision.

Despite these challenges, or perhaps because of them, the experience was unforgettable. The Club at Viniterra, with its stunning scenery and Rees Jones design, proved to be a worthy adversary. It was a day of perseverance, camaraderie, and a shared appreciation for a course that demands respect, especially when Mother Nature decides to add her own obstacles.
