Origin Story

Dennis and Jason had always shared a passion for golf trips, but it was their trip to Pinehurst in 2022 that truly cemented the idea. It was a crisp autumn day the weekend before Thanksgiving, the kind that makes you appreciate the beauty of nature and the camaraderie of good friends. They had just finished a challenging round on legendary Pinehurst No 2 being the second group out for the day, their spirits high despite the tough play.

They found themselves at The Cradle, Pinehurst’s short course, a perfect spot to unwind. On prior golf trips usually 2 rounds per day were played and there was little time to enjoy the down time that comes with the amenities in the area of the trip. They settled around a fire, sipping on Cradle Crossings. The atmosphere was electric with the laughter and stories of fellow golfers, many of whom would not rank Augusta in their top 5 courses ever played(snobs), creating a sense of community that was both comforting and inspiring.

Dennis took a sip of his drink and turned to Jason, “You know, we should do this more often,” he said. “Not just play golf, but make it a tradition. Something we can look forward to every year.”

Jason nodded, the idea resonating with him immediately. “Yeah, but it should be more than just golf. It should be about friendship, gratitude, and celebrating the good times we’ve had.”

They both agreed that playing 36 holes in a day while exciting it’d be more enjoyable to just do 1 round and take in their surroundings as Dennis had visited Pinehurst the year prior and missed out on many activities. The weekend prior to Thanksgiving also was a good choice for a golf trip as most of the people they wanted to go would be able to go rather than more conventional times for a golf trip. The weather would still be good enough more than likely and the off-season rates would just have kicked in while the courses were still in great shape.

The first GolfGiving was a modest affair, just a few close friends joining Dennis and Jason in Williamsburg in a condo. The 2nd GolfGiving the tradition grew returning to where it all started in Pinehurst. More friends joined, and the event became a highlight of the year. After the 2nd year it was decided that Pinehurst would be the home base of the golf trip.

Now, every year, as the weekend before Thanksgiving approaches, Dennis and Jason who some have said spend far too much time planning a 3 day trip look back on that evening at The Cradle with fondness. They remember the laughter, the warmth of the Cradle Crossings, and the spark of an idea that has brought so much joy to their lives. GolfGiving is more than just a golf trip; it’s a celebration of friendship, gratitude, and the enduring love for the game.
